Open Ended Art

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

What have your little ones created today all by themselves? Open ended art is so important for children, to express themselves and to just create from the heart. I typically like to use recycled things, so here is my little's recycled open art.

Carrot Top's winter scene with fabric and tin foil!
Fast Eddy's nature collage from items we collected on our nature walk.
Carrot Tops nature collageWhat recycled/natural materials did your little's work with this week?

I agree, open ended art is so important for our kiddos! When I was a preschool teacher, 95% of art projects were open ended.

Lovely winter scene!

I can't wait to go on nature walks again. How fun. It is too cold here for that.. We took toilet paper rolls and painted them red. We are making Valentines Butterfly. We will post it on Feb. 12th for my next Round Robin.

love the open ended art! My little ones really love to do nature collages- they are fun!
We use that sticky contact paper when we get home from walks and stick all the neat things she finds... then we stick that to a piece of paper and... Masterpiece!! LOL

That is a great idea! We will have to try that out!

OH man....we did open ended art with glue and sand. I included to one year old. Not such a great idea, although I did get some great pictures for a blog post when I get the time to put it together!

A note on the sticky contact paper that Jo Shabo mentioned- if you restick it to another piece of contact paper it makes a see through window hanging thing that is really fun!

Mine keep using the same piece of paper over and over again to scribble on. Those are some great pieces of art! :)

My girls favorite activity is actually getting a pen and asking for a piece of paper to go "write." This isn't using recycled/natural materials, but today for an "open-ended" project (after working on potato print penguins) they finger painted with the rest of the paint.

We love open ended art, or our art box.

Your kids projects look so great! They make me want to get outside again, but we will wait until it warms up a bit.
