Nutrion Co-op

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

We are in a wonderful homeschool groups that offers co-ops, field trips and much more. Today we participated in a nutrition co-op, led by a mother in our group that is a raw foodist. She is such a wealth of knowledge and I am loving hanging out out at her house prying into her refrigerator! I am hoping to learn some recipes and tips that I can incorporate into our diets.

Today we worked on classifying fruits and veggies, and exactly how much we should be eating! The kids learned kitchen skills, and had fun making a power packed smoothie! Smoothies are great because you can add anything you want to it! Make sure it is balanced between fruit and veggies, so your kids wont notice the veggies!

Smoothie
  • Strawberries or any berries
  • Grapes
  • Kale or spinach
  • Zucchini or cucumber
  • Squash, any kind
  • Red cabbage or green
  • Honey, agave, or maple syrup
  • Almond milk, juice, or regular milk
She just added it all to her SUPER powerful blender, and voila! The kids drank it all up! I will be making some more of these in the future!

When we came home, Fast Eddy enjoyed playing around on Nourish Interactive, which has some great games to go along with this topic. Next week the co-op will be covering the Food pyramid, and this site has games for that too!
