This week we are working on the food pyramid. Our homeschool group is having a co-op for the next 3 weeks regarding nutrition, so we are following along with the theme. We worked on the food pyramid all week, and I think he has it mastered.
We visited the resource library and found some awesome hands on pyramid things. Here is fast Eddy playing with the felt pyramid. It comes with over 50 foods to place in the groups. His favorite part was putting the groups together to make the pyramid. He loves puzzles.
This week the co-op played a food matching game and made more smoothies. This smoothie had all the food groups in it! They all loved it!
He made his own balanced meal with newspaper ads. I thought it was so funny because nothing he picked was really cooked. He is intrigued by the raw food thing, and so he picked eggs for protein, celery for veggies, blueberries for fruit, cheese for dairy, and popcorn for grain. He said that the popcorn was his special treat!
We read a few books about foods on the pyramid, and made carrot finger paint.
He had lots of awesome handouts from Nourish Interactive, which are all free. He worked on fruit and vegetable word matching, and food group vocabulary.
I let him play some games there too, like Solus Adventure through the Food Pyramid.
He got to make his own pyramid, and fill it with cut out foods from the ads.
A few other things I caught on camera: Fast Eddy working with his Tangrams.
