Please welcome our new writer- Tiffany! I have prayed very hard about this blog and the direction it has been going in. I am extremely happy with the growth but want to give you more. I want to share more with you- more of me and the way I view life (very interesting by the way.) I want to share homeschool ideas and random thoughts on parenting. I want to share what it is like to have a preemie, to be a working mom, to breastfeed for 4 years, to get poop on your hands etc etc. I am hoping that with the help of my best friend, Tiffany, the blog can get back on the right track! Tiffany is my best friend, and someone I can completely trust. I think she has a lot to bring to the table, and has a story that may touch other mothers. God has a plan for everything, and I know that with Tiffany on board we can share his message and follow his plan.
In it for the giveaways? Have no fear we have some great giveaways up our sleeve! Since I will be starting my training next week, I will be MIA for the next month or so. I am so grateful to have Tiffany aboard to keep things going!
Without Further ado………..
Melissa and I have been besties since (almost) the day we met. I remember the first day of the Anatomy Lab and this skinny, too perky, blond that sat down next to me. The rest, as they say, is history.
In the 5 or so years since that day, Melissa and I have been through so much! I was the matron of honor at her wedding and she talked me through my divorce. We supported each other through many miscarriages (both of us) and rejoiced together in the births of 3 of our kids. Melissa is one of the biggest gifts God has ever given me!
There is WAY too much to tell you about me in one post. As they say, ‘it’s complicated.’ I guess the most important thing to talk about right now are my babies! I have The Princess and Knuckles. They are 6 year old twin girls. These are crazy kids. And then there’s Mugsy (affectionately known as ‘that baby’.) She may be the baby but she is definitely the one in charge.
The Princess is convinced she is a Queen (in her ‘real’ life) and insists on being treated like one. There is nothing she will do that she can get someone else to do. She tends to be lazy and bossy but is really smart. She is definitely in ‘it’ for what she can get out of it. She shows me these flashes of brilliance and humor that astound me. I think she is going to be something really special- if I can get her over her insecurities. She’s going to be a handful as a teenager.
Knuckles is… well, Knuckles. She is the enforcer. She has (for real) taken a baton to The Princess’ knee caps, hit The Princess in the face with a garden hose that resulted in stitches on the eye, pulled Mugsy around the house by her feet when she was just a few weeks old… I mean, this could go on forever. Knuckles is so sweet- what you see is what you get! There is no ulterior motive and she gives it to you straight. But, she has some problems that are starting to look more and more serious as time goes on. I think there are undiagnosed learning disabilities and we are waiting for appts with a Neurologist, a PT, a Neurodevelopmentalist, a behavioral therapist and the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia Dept of Pediatric Psychology.
Mugsy (15 months) is a trip. She is such a joy and the funniest little thing. She has ‘that thing’ that draws people to her. Plus, really cute dimples. She has a full head of curly hair and the funniest laugh. She is in the 10% for her weight and less then the 5% for her height. I think this just adds to her charm. She looks like a large 6 month old toddling around yelling commands at everyone. She is the most DEMANDING baby I have ever seen. She is like a little old lady- set in her ways! If it is not her way she will be sure to let you know she is not happy. And she will keep letting you know until you make her happy- then throw in a few more jabs for the trouble you caused. It seems she has some kind of feeding/eating issue- as in she doesn’t eat. Well, solids. She still gets all her calories and nutrition from baby formula mixed in milk. And, needless to say, she doesn’t sleep through the night- I’m assuming its because she is HUNGRY!!!! (I would be!!)
That’s all there is time for now. I still need to tell you how I fit in with Home Grown Families philosophies on things such as organics, green living, homeschooling, etc. I also have some posts coming up on how we became a multi-cultural family, why I believe I am a true Southerner despite being born and raised a Yankee, my move back to a small (minded) Northern town, how I became a single Mom, raising girls (and why I believe that is a HUGE responsibility), why I refuse to medicate Knuckles (and why I had to fire my Pediatrician and pull her out of school over it) and living with a special needs child.
If you have any questions that you would like me to answer please feel free to post a comment or e-mail me. I am so excited to be able to share my journey with you and look forward to sharing your journey as well.
I hope you enjoy my posts as much as I have enjoyed my ‘getting to know blogging’ behind the scenes work!
“Hold on! It’s going to be a bumpy ride!”
