Next Generation Yoga for Kids~ Whale Yoga Review

This is the most. amazing. product. I have reviewed in a long time!!  You would not believe the response it got in my house!!!

Next Generation Yoga~ Whale Yoga for Kids is AMAZING!!!

I was told by the twins Occupational Therapist that they might benefit from practicing yoga.  I had read an article about studies that were being done on the benefits of ADHD kids and yoga so I was really open to the idea when it was suggested.

I started my months long search for an appropriate DVD for the girls when Jodi contacted me and wanted to know if I was interested in reviewing her newest project~ Whale Yoga for Kids.

I can not tell you how impressed I am!!!

One of the biggest pluses for us is the layout of the DVD.  Not only is Jodi calm and smiley, she makes sure the transitions are slow and well labeled.  She starts out with a demonstration of the proper technique and then has the kids viewing at home do it a few times.  Then she says "Now, lets all do it together." in a sweet and soothing voice.  The next scene is now Jodi with about 4 kids who do the same move while viewers at home follow along.  This allows for plenty of slow paced practice.  Also, if you have an ADHD child you know you need to transition them slowly or they'll get overwhelmed and you'll loose them.  After that move is finished she introduces the next move while the DVD breaks to videos of whales swimming and doing other whale stuff.

Jodi Komitor opened the first ever (in the world) children's yoga studio; she also told me that she is a former NYC Special Education teacher.  That's good credentials!

I couldn't find the original article I read about the study but I did find this one in Suite101.com and this one on Livestrong.com. 

Now, before you say something~ yes, I am a Christian and no I don't believe in the 'religion' of yoga.  Jodi doesn't get into that on this DVD.  There is a part where she tells the kids "You have an inner light in you" (or something like that) and has the kids tell each other the same thing.  I just said "Girls, who's our inner light?" and they answered "God!" immediately.  I think that's an appropriate way to handle it for our family.

I just want to show you some pics and videos of my kids doing Whale Yoga.  Of course, they 'needed' a yoga mat.  Of course we don't have any so a towel was used in it's place, and, of course, they wanted their very own eye pillows...  I'm going to have to ask Jodi to send us some mats, eye pillows and the SUPER cute NGY tank tops so they leave ME alone about it!! :)

Here is Knuckles doing something... relaxing maybe?  (I don't remember...)  (And, no, that's not a normal hairstyle.  We do that at night so it's crimpy in the morning.)
