Trash to Treasure- DIY Chalkboard Mirror

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

I have another Trash to Treasure for you!! I have had this ugly rose mirror under my bed since I was about 15. I just couldn't get rid of it, but never wanted it on my wall.  It was destined for the garbage but I had an awesome idea for it!

First.....see it in all it's ugly glory.

Ugly right. We started by taking it all apart....and sanded the mirror gently with 220 grit sandpaper so the paint would grab it. My husband sprayed the mirror with adhesion promoter before priming both pieces with primer for plastic. Typically we use Kilz but the frame is plastic.

Next- added out pop of color to the frame and sprayed the mirror with chalkboard spray paint!

It goes great with the girls room....and I am trying to leave them little notes everyday!

Not too bad......and you can come across ugly mirrors at any thrift store!

Also, I was sooooo excited to see my Vintage school desk get featured on Natural Nesters! Go over and check out my feature and link up any creations you have!

Can't go wrong with a chalkboard, and you really made a gem out of something not quite so lovely. Do your girls love it?

I found your post at the Naturally Nifty Link party. Love to have you come by and see me at Quirky Vistas!
