If your kids are like mine, they love animals, fish, birds~ anything and everything in the animal kingdom. So, of course they like zoo's and aquariums. So, when I found a place that was a zoo and aquarium, they were already in the car and ready to go!
Welcome to The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium in Pittsburgh, PA. Where 1 ticket gets gets you admission to see everything from the lions to the sharks!
I can't show all the photos from our trip on this post so make sure you check them out in our Google+ Album!
We loved seeing all the cats! It was neat that they were first. They're so gorgeous, aren't they? But, they don't do anything. They barely moved a muscle.
I particularly liked seeing the elephants up close. You never know how big they really are until you see for yourself. I didn't realize how big they could be, either! In this photograph, I put the kids up against all different kinds of elephants. You can see how big they get! 12' for an Adult Bull Elephant?!? You can see how huge that really is!
There was an elephant "learning center" too where you got to see some babies and learn a little more about them. The 3 year old is standing in an elephant print in the top picture and the bottom picture is The Princess {and her wonderful attitude} with her hand on a lower jaw. These things are huge, people!
The monkey house is always a favorite, too. Of course we caught a monkey doing nasty stuff. I mean, when do you ever see a monkey that is not doing nasty stuff? My favorite is always the gorilla, though. They remind me of my dad~ big, hairy and a big belly.
The Pittsburgh Zoo is set up in almost a circle. It is easy to go with the flow and see everything without zig-zagging all over the place. If you follow the circle, you end up at the PPG Aquarium. You don't need a separate ticket to get in which is so cool!
Before you enter the aquarium, you can see the Second Chance Sea Turtle exhibit. It is actually a building all by itself dedicated to serving turtles! We met Ghostbuster~ the curry turtle in quarantine who insisted on staying at one end of his pool so I couldn't get a good shot of him.
There is tons to see inside the PPG Aquarium, including penguins! We had fun watching those natural comedians. When you exit the Aquarium, you land right at the Polar Bear exhibit. They're bigger than I thought they were, too!
We ran out of time and energy to see it all, but we did end at a little petting zoo. The girls love to pet all kinds of animals and I always let them because I think it's a great learning experience. You never really know about something until you put your hands on it, you know?
We had a great time at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium and we would love to go back! Hopefully we can very soon!

Looks like so much fun. If we are ever traveling near there we will have to stop for a fun day for the kiddos. We have a pretty nice zoo out by us in the chicago suburbs. My son just loves going to the zoo
Love the Pittsburgh Zoo!
Our favorite thing to do when we travel is to hit the zoo's. Some are better than others, this one looks fantastic
Looks like a great zoo. We love to visit zoos and aquariums when we travel.
Looks like you had a great trip. We live in San Diego so we go to the Zoo fairly often. I laughed when I saw the turtle's name was Ghostbuster. Cute!
The zoo is so much fun. We take my girls a few times a year. We live near Detroit, so we go to the Detroit Zoo, we also go to the Toledo Zoo (which I think is better). It's always a great time.
