I rec’d the following Mixed Chick products to facilitate this review.
If there is anything that a parent to a brown girl knows, it’s that their hair brings it’s own challenges. Lots of challenges. Lots and lots of challenges… As the mother to a brown girl, I wish I had discovered Mixed Chicks about 6 years ago.
Curly hair brings it’s own challenges, sure, but ethnic curly hair is in a whole different ballpark. Usually, it’s for as simple a reason as brown girls hair being coarser than white girls curly hair. You don’t really understand how different thick, coarse hair is when compared to softer hair. Simply put, not all the products sold in big box stores are appropriate for mixed hair.
Finally, a curl-defining system for “us”. Whether you’re black, white, asian, latin, mediterranean, or any glorious combination of the above, you’ll love the way these non-sticky, lightweight curly hair products leave your hair inviting to touch as they define and lock moisture into every curl.
I was so excited when they contacted me and asked me to use a bunch of their hair care products! not only do I have a mixed chick of my own, but my ethnicity shows through in my hair. It’s thick, course, curly and absolutely perfect for these products.
Mixed Chicks sent me:
Gentile Clarifying Shampoo~ perfect for straight, wavy, and curly hair
I loved this shampoo and I LOVE that it’s vegan! It’s great for your hair and leaves it feeling squeaky clean.
Leave-In Conditioner~ formulated to tame frizz, define curls, AND is fine for synthetic hair
This worked well on Emory’s hair but it was a little too heavy on mine. I would recommend it for people with truly coarse hair. It left my brown girl’s hair supple and soft.
Deep Conditioner~ detangle & restore curly, tightly curled or straight hair. penetrates and reconstructs damaged areas
This is such a great product! It’s great for any kind of damage and it helps bring your curly, frizzy hair back in line. I also LOVE that it’s a detangler- which most curly haired kids need!
Hair Silk~ great for adding softness and shine
When coarse hair gets long, it can be hard to maintain it’s natural shine. Add in the fact that coarser hair tend to be drier, the Hair Silk is something you NEED in your routine. Start with a little bit and add more if you need to.
Replenishing Oil~ an intensive oil treatment for skin, hair, and scalp
This is another oil that’s great for adding shine and softness to hair but this oil is also suitable for skin! I love using this on problem areas like knees and elbows.
Morning After Redefining Foam~ perfect to rejuvenate your curls after sleeping on them
THIS! This is my favorite hair care product ever! Us curly haired girls know that curly hair needs to be cut more often that we can get to the salon. When curly hair gets longer, it can be harder to hold it’s natural curl for as long as when it’s freshly cut. This year has been crazy and I am definitely overdue for a cut, as is Emory. Since I can’t wash it every single day in order to bring the curl back to an acceptable level, this Redefining Foam is just what the hair doctor ordered! Put it on your dried curls and watch what happens!
Mixed Chicks is the real deal for anyone that has hard to manage hair!
You can buy all the products mentioned here, and the rest of their line, on the Mixed Chicks site! Prices vary.
