We are going animal crazy this week in celebration of the release of Monkey Kingdom! Monkey Kingdom is in theaters everywhere now and such a great way to celebrate Earth Day this week! If you haven’t had a chance to read our Monkey Kingdom movie review………you should 🙂 We are also giving away a beautiful Alex Woo monkey necklace in honor of Earth Day!
Walt Disney World~ Where dreams come true.
Disney offers soooo many opportunities for you to dig deeper into the Disney fun with experiences, tours, and more! But none are quite like this one…………
Disney Animal Kingdom offers Disney fans the opportunity to take a walk on the wild side with the Wild Africa Trek tour! If you are 8 years+, you can become quite the courageous one as you walk across a broken bridge spanning across a pit of hunger crocs or even dangle in front of hippos that could crush you with one little snap! The Wild Africa Trek is a private VIP 3 hour experience at Animal Kingdom that takes you behind the scenes and gets you close to some of your favorite animals in an uninhibited, natural environment! Look at all the animals you have the chance to see~ without even crossing the Atlantic Ocean!
The Wild Africa Trek has you safely harnessed in a full safari get up! You are given a stainless steel water bottle to hook to your vest, a strap for your sunglasses, and an audio device so your trainer can give you tons of information on the animals in the Safi River Valley.
After getting safely harnessed~ we venture out to see the most amazing animal in the world (Can you tell I ♥ them?)…….the HIPPOS! We had the chance to watch the trainer feed this father and son duo! Our trainer taught us about this hippo family and fed him some lettuce so we could see that HUGE mouth of his!
Then the next part came. They fully expected me to walk across this………..with THOSE things under it!
Luckily you are safely harnessed because it is SCARY!! The crocodiles are huge- as in their abdomen girth is out of this world! They hissed and slithered. Terrifying AND you have to cross 2 broken bridges!
YOUR JUST 10 FEET ABOVE THEM!!!
After you successfully cross both bridges, you get to stand over them on a ledge- safely tethered of course! The guides are amazing about teaching you how these animals live and behave! Did you know Crocodiles eat only once a week!!! I was glad they had already eaten that week.
The Wild Africa Trek includes a private safari ride so you can explore the Harambe Reserve! Unlike the Kilimanjaro safari ride that Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers, this safari ride stops for picture and learning opportunities.
They even offer binoculars to use and cold towels to stay cool!
After all that adventuring, I was soooo happy for a stop at a Boma! Your Wild Africa Trek includes lunch at an African hut smack in the middle of the safari! The authentic African spread included food that you can ONLY get on this safari (that means no where else in Disney)!
As a vegetarian, the chefs were extremely accommodating and made me a special platter! This applies to allergies as well- just be sure to let them know when booking your Wild Africa Trek! I LOVED the tofu and curried pearl couscous. For all you meat eaters- I heard the Marinated Tandoori Shrimp and air dried prosciutto was absolutely delicious! We all enjoyed the edible flower followed by a walk around the Boma! The safari view is breathtaking.
The entire trek was almost surreal~ you almost forget your only in Florida! The Wild Africa Trek is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get closer to nature in a way you can’t get anywhere else (well except for actual Africa!). And you will have picture proof! All of these amazing photos came from the included photo service! You will have a camera man with you every step, taking pictures of your entire experience. You will receive a code to access all the photos, along with permission to use and print any that you would like!
A few things to note about the Wild Africa Trek before you go:
I hope this peek into the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has you excited to schedule your tour and gets you excited to get closer to nature by going to see the new Monkey Kingdom movie! These 2 things have 1 thing in common- a portion of the proceeds goes right back into nature through the Disney Conservation Fund! Now through April 23rd, when you see Monkey Kingdom in theaters you will be making a difference! Check out the trailer below!
